THE DIVE SPOT

Abades has features that make it unbeatable for practicing water sports such as swimming, snorkeling, diving or kayaking. Also for coastal hiking. To the north are numerous old abandoned buildings, vestiges of an old leper colony project. To the south is the volcano Montaña de Abades. The landscape is dominated by the vegetation typical of the coastal strip, the cardo-tabaibal and the even dunes. In addition, there are several beaches such as Abades, Los Cardones or Cueva de la Arena. The bottom of the bay is dominated by large patches of sebadales and shallow sandbanks, which makes it easy to observe species such as turtles or mestizos. There are also reefs covered with algae, regenerated by the intense work of volunteer divers, although white spots are still present. There are also several submerged caves such as the Cueva de Las Trompetas to the north of the bay or the Cueva de Fran to the south.
